Deserves a second chance. It is one of my favorite Billy Joel songs, and it was recently butchered by one Carmen Rasmusen. It is best sung as Mr. Joel intended: a man and a piano—and nothing else. Here’s the really wierd part that Merrin didn’t reveal:
Last night, we were discussing what “lesser known” Billy Joel song could be really, really perfect for someone to sing, with the understanding that 1/2 of Billy Joel’s genius is in the ability to marry vocals to some pretty soulful piano playing.
I said, “And So It Goes” and we both agreed that Clay should do it. So I was FLOORED with Carmen came out to perform it. SHOCKED! And then we both rejoiced as they ripped her because –DEAR LORD– she was awful!
