Help Me. Help Us All.

I love it when the media blatantly panders to the average (and I mean “average” in a bad way—Don’t get your panties in a twist; I’m referring to myself) American, as if you couldn’t have already figured that out from my horrible, wretched reality TV addiction. So imagine my glee when I came across this. Please don’t rush to conclusions: I only watched The Anna Nicole Show, like, three times last season, and I was horrified each time (and yet I could not look away). But I truly cannot help but be riveted to my television every time I catch a glimpse of her. It’s like a train wreck. Don’t any of you remember way back in the early 90’s when she was a bombshell? I was in high school, and all the guys I knew were lusting after her. And now the pathetic existence which is her life. Maybe I’m glad that none of that happened to me. Sure, I’ve gained weight since I was 16, but at least I can still form a coherent thought. Ahhhhhh. There it is. The very same reason that I watch all reality TV: to make myself feel better about, well, myself. Oh God. I’ve gotta get a new hobby.

Just When I Was Ready

To go ballistic on the needless waste of our tax dollars, I get the wheels shot out from under me. This story still pisses me off, because I see absolutely no need to be so alarmist; however, at least it’s not my money that’s funding this latest movement. Just to be contrary, however, please click the link below to read more about Democrats. If you’re a Republican, then good for you! I respect your decision to choose, which is not only what makes this country great (since bipartisanship was a fundamental premise of the Framers), it also speaks to the increased level of tolerance (at least when you compare my husband–the Republican–to me–the Democrat). If you haven’t already guessed, this whole entry is in response to Kev’s resurgence of Democrat-bashing over at his place. Did anyone else notice the absence of the “Comments” option? Hmmmmm.
Where the Other Half Lives

So Much Sadness

This week. In the past seven days, I have heard more heartbreaking news from more people than I even care to list here. So, in honor of those who have all lost the most precious gift in life, today I offer you my deepest sympathy, my prayers, a shoulder on which to cry, and my admiration and overwhelming awe at your strength. While I cannot begin to fathom your pain, I wish with all my heart that I could take it from you.

A Comforting Thought

Here’s An Update

That I bet you didn’t hear about on your local news broadcast. It’s not that the media isn’t covering this story, it’s just that they’re burying it, even at Remember back in September when this story was the lead-in on each and every newscast? Well, the verdict is in, and not surprisingly, no one wants to touch it with a 10-foot pole. Could it be, oh I don’t know, that she was only sentenced to time served? And before you go thinking that surely must have been a while, let me tell you the duration: 4 days. Apparently, that’s all the time a child abuser needs to reflect on the nature of his/her injustice. Sorry, it just infuriates me that the people who absolutely, unequivocably should not have children are the very same ones who so often take them for granted at the very least, and neglect and abuse them at the very worst. Damn.

Be yourself, no matter what they say.”

Take As Needed

It’s funny… I always assumed that the definition of “As Needed” meant just that. Except in my case, it doesn’t. Apparently, “as needed” means every day. Don’t worry. Everything’s fine, I swear, but yesterday, in honor of Valentine’s Day, my heart started acting up a little. No big deal, nothing really out of the ordinary (at least not for me; slightly wonky EKG’s have been a part of my life for a while), but now the doctor thinks it’s best if I take my medication every day. Oh yeah, I’m also supposed to avoid stressful situations (has he met me?) and also try to rest a little more. See? Like I said: No big deal!
Still Ticking!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

To everybody! Most especially, Happy :love Day to my wonderful husband, for more reasons than I could possibly count. Thanks so much for sticking by me, for putting up with me, and for never questioning my sanity (at least not to my face). I’m so sorry that we have to spend Valentine’s Day at home tonight, but at least we’re together! Thanks for being by my side today and everyday. I love you more than you will ever know. You bring joy into my life, happiness to each and every day, and comfort when I need it the most. You are, quite simply, my everything.

Trying To Find My Rhythm

You know, as I inch closer and closer to 30, you’d think I’d already be acquainted with life’s quirky ups and downs. You conquer one problem, and three more rear their ugly heads. My home life (read: anything not having to do with work) has quieted down significantly, and of course, that’s the most important thing. But now work has become stressful again. Sure, I enjoyed the nice little respite, but now it’s back to the grindstone, only this time it seems like there is an endless mountain of stuff to deal with. Normally, I wouldn’t mind, but I feel like I’ve been expending every ounce of my energy for the last three months, and I just don’t know how much I have left. I swear to everything holy, this is some kind of cosmic payback for having such a peaceful few years. I can handle anything for 3 weeks…..

Finally, Some Good News From Congress

Okay, I admit it. Not all Republicans are war-mongering, cold-blooded, money/power-hungry jerks. I married one, didn’t I? Besides that, look at what they started to do today. Hooray! This comes on the heels of the cold realization that our new number was not added to the Texas No-Call List, and it’s too late to add it now. :cry
Fight Back!

Once Again, Karma Coupons Are Cashed In

See, I could go on and on about the impending war with Iraq, the scare tactics currently being employed by the US Government and the media (you’re lucky you didn’t cause a mass hysteria, guys), or Al Qaeda’s most recent threats against our homeland. We could go on all day (and most of the night), about how wonderful it is to have Republicans in power (are you catching the sarcasm? Good, because I’m laying it on pretty thick.) because of rulings like this. I could talk about my personal plan to change my lifestyle (hello, Weight Watchers, goodbye Dr. Pepper). Hell, I could even wax poetic about today’s Oscar nominations (go Chicago!). However, today I just don’t have it in me to offer anything of real substance, so I give you this. Ya gotta love karma, and this is just more proof that you can’t escape the powers of the universe.
Pay Up!

Last Day Off

Well, here it is: my last day off for something crazy, like 16 days. It’s all worth it, though, because my house is gorgeous. It’s like Christmas and my birthday all rolled into one! I swear to everything holy, I’ll never get tired of this place. To top it off, Gianna brought me new reads today, so now I’m no longer deficient in the book department. Hooray! My dogs are finally settled in, the new dishwasher is whisper-quiet (unlike the one in the old house, which could be heard three states away), and the garden tub is the most wonderful invention in all the world. It’s so hard to believe that this time last week I was willing to forget the whole thing, take the money from the sale of the house, and move to Tuscany, where I would happily live out my days in wine-induced obscurity. Wait. That still sounds pretty appealing….
So now that my life has once again begun to settle, I’m getting back to the normal, day-to-day stuff. Which means that I’m once again thinking about writing a book. Which means that I once again have to battle my inner demons who wage a small internal war every time I think about this. Who knows? Maybe this time I’ll really do it….
Inspire me, Thalia!

Oh Me Oh My

So Kev is once again searching for help for Valentine’s Day ideas. Hmmmm. For the record, if anyone cares, I really do want new bedding for the guest room, and am more than willing to skip the flowers altogether. I have a much more serious problem, however: I have no idea what to get for the husband. Every time I ask what he might want, I get the standard Big Kev Response: “I dunno”. The root of the problem is deeper, though. See, the thing is, Kevin is a fantastic gift-giver. He has never gotten me anything I haven’t loved. That’s an extrememly hard act to follow. So now for my plea: Does anyone have any suggestions for husbands?

Be Mine!
P.S. All the boxes are unpacked, stuff is put away, and the house looks fabulous! :grin

The Great Disappearing Boxes

Why does it seem like the more boxes you unpack, the more you find that have yet to be unpacked? Such is the case at home. Really, all that’s left by this time are my books, but let’s face it: that’s quite a daunting task. It seems like they’re multiplying like rabbits!
In other news on the moving-in front, the jury’s still out on this whole “Let’s share an office” thing. I was unpacking the guest room (also known as Corey’s room. since she always spends the night when she visits :smile), and all of a sudden I started to really miss having my own space. I’ve only shared the office for 2 days, and I’m already missing my pretty, neat, clean, organized, good-smelling girl room. I did nix all the guy decor (you know, beer posters, golf paraphernalia, papers stacked in the middle of the floor, etc.) however, and that makes me feel a little better. Oh well. We’ll see how it works out. I’m just so glad to be here and getting settled!
Smell Goodness!

We’re Here!

That’s right! We’ve finally moved into the new house, and it’s even more wonderful now (with stuff) than we ever thought it would be! As we speak, we are getting the Tivo installed, and now that we’re back online, you can expect frequent updates about the status of the boxes (packed vs. unpacked). Meanwhile, the dogs are finally starting to settle in, even thought Rigley was a little miffed at me for taking her away from Grandma Cheryl’s house. All in all, we’ve had a very exciting week, and we’re looking forward to getting everything in order! We’ll keep you posted!
Home Sweet Home!
