The Big Chill
Well, we’ve finally managed to get our refrigerator fixed (although, technically, it’s not our refrigerator, since we rent our house). It’s been on the blink for quite a while, but last week it finally died. Thankfully, we have our REAL fridge….the sweet-ass stainless steel bad boy we brought with us from the Mound. This begs the question: What would you do if you didn’t have a refrigerator?
Sure, it’s been a pain to have to run to the garage every time I need a Coke, but at least we had the back-up. The repair guy took one look at the empty fridge in the kitchen and asked what we’ve been doing for food. I can’t even begin to imagine how to live without something we all pretty much take for granted. I guess the short-term answer would be to invest in a cooler, but that could only work for so long.
So again: What would you do without your fridge?

good question. if we had an old well I’d say we could drop things down in the water in a bucket and keep them cool like they did back in the day. but we don’t have one. which makes me wonder what grandma & grandpa did back before they had electricity down here. they must’ve had an old well and then covered it with the pump/well house we have now.

the husband said the grandparents had the original water well over where my lone rose bush is planted (outside G’s window). that’s why there was a nice little “dip” in the ground there when we moved in – which is what prompted me to plan that rose bush there.

The only thing we really need a fridge for is to keep the dairy cold, I guess if we had a family cow we could get fresh everyday. And we could smoke the meat to cure it. Hmm… sounds like a interesting challenge 🙂

I’m not entirely sure I need a fridge to house tacos.
