Clean Sweep: Day2
Okay. The memorabilia was tough. The books were WAY tougher. I now have seven boxes of books ready to be whisked away to Half Price and the Library. This was definitely the hardest part so far. I kept only what I regularly use for reference, and my extensive collection of novels by one particular author. Oh, and books that are autographed to me specifically and those with sentimental value. I know I know. It sounds like a lot, but it really is only one and half bookcases worth, which is a whole lot better than it was. The sad part is that I haven’t even begun to go through the boxes in Kevin’s office, the garage, or the bedroom.
The big lesson that I’ve learned so far is that they make it look easy on TV. It’s so totally not. Sure, if I had a TV crew and a professional organizer, I’d be done by now. However, my office is 98% there, so I don’t feel too bad.

You did a great job with all those boxes of books. I walked in and I just knew that it was going to be the “keep” stack. I’m really proud and think how good it will feel to see someone getting some use out of those books.
As far as my office goes, the closet is pretty bare. Shouldn’t be too much trouble. The garage stuff is probably all trash. We’ve moved some of that stuff three times in seven years without ever opening it. I wouldn’t exactly say we’re missing it.

Wow… you’re doing great, Merrin! You’re going to feel super having more space. I still have some work to do in my garage, but I hardly ever go out there, so it’s out of sight/out of mind. Of course, if I got it cleaned out, I’d park my car in there, and it wouldn’t be out of mind anymore!
Getting rid of books was real hard for me, too. The hardest, though, was CDs. I wasn’t as successful with my CDs as you were with your books. :b

You are doing great! Books must be especially hard to part with since you’re an avid reader. 🙁
